Life and death on Mackinac Island

Not only do people live on Mackinac Island but they also die here. The cemetary has markers that are representative of the first families who settled this island. This is a picture of an 1878 Hearst that is in one of the many carriage houses for display. This has been used by the residents of the Island to carry their loved ones to their final resting place since this 1878 and it still used today. We walk from one of several churches to the cemetery today on our way to the fort. ROM
